“As soon as Judas had taken the bread, he went out. And it was night. When he was gone, Jesus said, “Now the Son of Man is glorified and God is glorified in him. If God is glorified in him, God will glorify the Son in himself, and will glorify him at once. “My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now: Where I am going, you cannot come. “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:30-35 NIV
1 – Judas left the presence of Jesus and the disciples to go and betray Jesus. Only after Judas left, Jesus spoke to His disciples about the new commandment He was giving.
2 – Jesus in earlier verses spoke bluntly & plainly to His disciple that one of them would betray Him & even indicated to John who it would be, Judas; yet the disciples didn’t all understand. Which leads me to realise that God reveals & confirms things to us that we need to know before hand to prepare us but the majority of the time, due to distractions & cognitive dissonance, we ignore His guidance.
More interestingly, Jesus only gave the new commandment to His 11 disciples after Judas left. This little detail can be easily ignored to most of us if we are not in spirit & focused to learn while reading the Word of God.
My question was, “why did He not reveal this new commandment while Judas was there? Then the Lord revealed it to me, He reminded me of what Myles Munroe taught me about Jesus & His nature of revealing/teaching things to people: Jesus doesn’t violate His Holiness or integrity by telling any person what they are not interested in knowing, especially when it is His truths & commands. This is one of the reason He spoke to the masses and religious people in parables.
Jesus also called the 11 disciples ‘My children’ once Judas left, what does that indicate in a person’s mind? Relation. Jesus consider Judas as a disciple but not a ‘child’ like the rest; you can be a disciple/student but still not have a close relationship with your master/teacher, which Judas proved was in fact the case through his betrayal.
Judas didn’t belong to God & His purpose but to satan & for his purpose, even after 3 1/2 years. Judas refused to REPENT, which in the original Greek is METANOEO & original Hebrew SHUB which means a radical change of the mind; repentance has very little to do with emotions & upholding holy rituals/traditions.
3 – (1) Sit down, get rid of all distractions or potential distractions, and THINK & REFLECT by taking into account all things you know about God, the world, your life & your dream life
(2) Make a serious, assertive & manageable decision to either seek a real relationship with God or seek a lifestyle the world has to offer.
(3) Look for a serious Mentor/Coach & environment that will support the decision you have made.
